The 1984 St. Scholastica volleyball squad won the second of back-to-back NLCAA National Championships. That Saints finished with a record of 32-3, which is still the best single-season record in program history. It also finished undefeated in league play with a 12-0 mark. The three losses came against the University of Minnesota-Duluth, William Penn University (Iowa) and Concordia University-St. Paul in the MWCC Tournament. The Saints responded from that loss to Concordia to win five straight matches, including four the following day to capture the MWCC Tournament title. The Saints defeated Fontbonne College (Mo.) to capture its second straight NLCAA National Title. The squad had only one senior in Sue VanTassel and she was named the team’s MVP. Penny Rivard was named a NLCAA All-American and Sarah Sinniger was named the NLCAA Tournament MVP. The team also featured current CSS Hall of Famer Vickie Winkler.
