DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The Saints Sports Awards returned on Monday, April 1 for its eleventh iteration of the event that recognizes all of St. Scholastica's student-athletes accomplishments throughout the year. Once again, the in-person event was held in the Mitchell Auditorium.
The award categories featured nominees from the 2023 spring season, along with the fall and winter seasons from the current academic year. Awards were handed out for Male/Female Rookie of the Year, Male/Female Athlete of the Year, Male/Female Team of the Year, Male/Female Performance of the Year, Male/Female Game of the Year, Male/Female Career Achievement, John Baggs Sportsmanship Award, Male/Female Scholar-Athlete and Berntson Blue & Gold Award.
The cross country teams and track teams took home nine total awards home on Monday evening.
Rookie of the year was awarded to track & field's Noah Kubicek and basketball's Kloey Lind
Cross country's Lars Dewall collected Male Performance and Athlete of the Year, the same results were given to Lily Beneke as she was awarded Female Performance of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year.
Ella Achterkirch from women's soccer received the John Baggs Sportsmanship Award, Grace Hadlich of softball was the Female Scholar-Athlete recipient, while golf's Zach Wenner was the Male Scholar-Athlete recipient
Cross country and track & field's Maj-Lis Helmer won the Female Career Achievement Award and the All-American sprinter Samuel Eben Ebai Jr. was voted the Male Career Achievement recipient.
The Berntson Blue and Gold Award was given to associate professor of chemistry and assistant nordic ski coach, Dr. Zach Via for his support of the athletics
