2018 Saints Sports Awards Recap

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The College of the St. Scholastica Athletics Department held its sixth annual Saints Sports Awards in the Reif Gymnasium on Monday, April 23.

The Saints Sports Awards were established in 2013 to recognize all of St. Scholastica's approximately 500 student-athletes' accomplishments throughout the year. The Oscar-like, formal atmosphere features pictures on the gold carpet, photo booths, videos and more.
 
Dave Cook and Brian Prudhomme were Masters of Ceremonies for the second consecutive year. Awards were handed out for Male/Female Rookie of the Year, Male/Female Athlete of the Year, Male/Female Team of the Year, Male/Female Performance of the Year, Male/Female Game of the Year, Male/Female Career Achievement, John Baggs Sportsmanship Award, Male/Female Scholar-Athlete and Berntson Blue and Gold Support.
 
Baseball was the big winner on the evening not only collecting Male Team of the Year honors, but Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral) was named the Male Athlete of the Year, Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) was a co-recipient of the Male Career Achievement Award, Martin Alcoverde (Tucson, Ariz./Sahuarita HS (Mesabi Range CC)) received the Male Performance of the Year Award for his pitching in the NCAA Division III Tournament last spring and Drew Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) received the John Baggs Sportsmanship Award, handed out by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
 
Women's Golf was named the Female Team of the Year for the second consecutive year. Women's Cross Country's Casey Hovland (North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) was named the Female Athlete of the Year for the third year in a row and also earned the Female Performance of the Year for her win at the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship.

The Athletics Department would like to thank Glenwood Signs and Awards for the trophies, Blackwoods for the food catering, London Road Rental for the tables and chairs and Sound Central for the video screen and technical equipment to make the event possible.
