2022 Saints Sports Awards Recap

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The Saints Sports Awards returned after a year hiatus on Sunday with the ninth iteration of the event that recognizes all of St. Scholastica's student-athletes' accomplishments throughout the year. For the first time the event was held in the Mitchell Auditorium and was in-person for the first time since 2019.
 
The award categories featured nominees from the 2020 spring season, along with the fall and winter seasons from the current academic year. The event was hosted by St. Scholastica alum and current WDIO-TV Sports Director Alicia Tipcke. Awards were handed out for Male/Female Rookie of the Year, Male/Female Athlete of the Year, Male/Female Team of the Year, Male/Female Performance of the Year, Male/Female Game of the Year, Male/Female Career Achievement, John Baggs Sportsmanship Award, Male/Female Scholar-Athlete and Berntson Blue and Gold Support.
 
Cross Country and Track & Field athlete Calvin Boone (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Highland Park HS) was the big winner on the evening taking home three awards. Boone was named the Male Rookie of the Year, Male Athlete of the Year and had the Male Performance of the Year,
 
Football's Mack Nelson (Sandstone, Minn./East Central HS) also took home two awards being named the John Baggs Sportsmanship Award recipient and the Male Scholar-Athlete recipient.
 
Men's Basketball took home Male Game of the Year honors for its first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win over Bethel University. Men's Tennis won the Male Team of the Year after qualifying for the NCAA Tournament last spring.
 
Men's Skier Emil Book Bratbak (Lillehammer, Norway/Lillehammer) won the Male Career Achievement Award. Women's Skier Victoria Dybwad (Oslo, Norway/Donski HS) took home the Female Rookie of the Year Award.
 
Women's Soccer won the Female Game of the Year and Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) received the Female Athlete of the Year honor.
 
Women's Hockey won the Female Team of the Year award and Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) was voted the Female Career Achievement recipient.
 
Softball's Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) was awarded the Female Performance of the Year award.
 
Volleyball's Haley Rohwer (Norwood Young America, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) was the Female Scholar-Athlete honoree.
 
The Berntson Blue and Gold Award was given to the Athletic Training Department for their work over the last two years, keeping St. Scholastica athletes healthy and competitive.
