Home Baseball Doubleheader Moved Up to Friday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team will play its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener and home opener Friday evening against Martin Luther College. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday, but inclement weather forecasted for Saturday bumped the games to Friday.

What you need to know about the Saints:
-The Saints are coming off their first-ever doubleheader sweep of University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Wednesday.
-CSS totaled 34 runs in the doubleheader with 17 runs in each game.
-The 17 runs scored were the most in a game against a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) program.
-It was also the first road doubleheader sweep of a WIAC school since 1992 when UW-Superior was in the league.
-CSS entered its game with the University of Minnesota on Tuesday with 11 hits and one run in its previous three games. In the last three games against the Gophers and UWSP, the Saints have 31 hits and 38 runs scored.
-Junior Aaron Weber (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Pierz HS) has a hit streak of 12 games and has 12 RBIs in the last three games.
-Weber has five multi-RBI games already this season.
-Joey Zwak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) has hit two home runs this week, one coming against the Gophers, and leads the conference with 12 stolen bases.
-Freshman pitcher Grant Taival (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) has put together a nice start to his collegiate career with a team-best 0.90 earned run average and .211 opposing batting average in 10 innings pitched.
-The Saints hit six home runs against the Pointers on Wednesday and now lead the UMAC with 11 home runs.
-The 4-5-6 innings have hurt the Saints thus far this season, being outscored 48-28.
-CSS is 6-0 this season when it scores first.
-Head Coach Corey Kemp is four wins shy 300 career victories.

Record: 2-12, 0-0 UMAC
-The Knights are one of two teams in the UMAC thus far with two wins or fewer (Minnesota Morris)
-MLC is riding a six-game losing streak, all against conference teams, which were played as non-conference games.
-Adam Westra leads the team offensively with .469 average, which ranks third in the conference.
-Caleb Christopher has a team-high four doubles and seven RBIs.
-Andrew Mantz has pitched a total of 18.1 innings with three starts and a 1.96 ERA, but is 0-3 on the year.
-Pitcher Matt Baehman was an All-UMAC selection last season.
-The Knights are picked to finish last in the conference this season.

-Saint John's is the preseason favorite to capture the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) title for the second straight season.
-The Johnnies have a pair of doubleheaders against MIAC teams Concordia College-Moorhead and Carleton College before facing the Saints on Sunday.
-SJU has already split with Saint Mary's University, a team the Saints split with as well.
-The Johnnie pitching staff has already tossed four shutouts this season, which ranks fifth in NCAA Division III.
-Jake Dickmeyer leads the nation with four complete games and ranks second nationally with a 0.65 WHIP.
-Dickmeyer was the MIAC Pitcher of the Year last season.
-SJU leads all MIAC teams, averaging 7.6 runs per game and a .317 batting average.
-Jack Schramel leads the team with a .397 batting average and 19 RBIs.
-Max Jackson leads the conference with 15 stolen bases.
