Men's Tennis Sweeps Morris, Extends Win Streak to 10

MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team took on the University of Minnesota Morris for the second time this season Sunday afternoon. The Saints kept to their winning ways, extending their win streak to 10 matches as they defeated the Cougars by a score of 9-0.

Doubles
The No. 1 team of Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and Brendan Boudreau (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate) kicked things off for St. Scholastica, defeating the Cougars best duo by a score of 8-1. The one game by the Cougars in that match would be there only point in all of doubles competition as the CSS No. 2 team of Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 “Podil”) and Zach Meikle (La Salle, Manitoba/Linden Christian School) and the No. 3 team of Caleb Thill (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) and Jason Kent (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Altoona (Wis.) HS) took care of business by sweeping the Morris teams 8-0.

Singles
Individually, the Saints didn't take their feet of the pedal. In fact, the six players who participated in the singles competition all won in straight sets, making sure to assert their dominance as a powerhouse in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. Tykhonenko was victorious at the No. 1 spot, winning by a score of 6-0, 6-2. Engelstad then won his matchup at the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-0, which ties him the most singles wins in a career at St. Scholastica. Boudreau followed suit at the No. 3 position by sweeping his opponent 6-0, 6-0 as well. Kent made that three individual sweeps in a row as he took down Morris's No. 4 player 6-0, 6-0. Meikle won 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot and Thill closed out the sweep with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Up Next
The Saints (15-1, 5-0 UMAC) will now have 10 days off before they travel across the border to take on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on April 12. The competition is set to start at 3 p.m.
