DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team saw its season come to a close on Friday afternoon, falling 4-1 to No. 47 Carleton College in the MIAC Semifinals in Northfield.
Making their first MIAC postseason appearance since the 2023-24 season, the third-seeded Saints (13-7) ran into a strong Carleton squad that controlled the early momentum. The Knights secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to take a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Carleton added victories at No. 1 and No. 6 to move within one point of the match. The Saints responded at No. 2 singles, where junior Dane Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) earned a straight-set win, 6-3, 6-2, to account for St. Scholastica's lone point of the afternoon.
The deciding point came at No. 3 singles, where senior Eamon Gerrard-Stace (Brisbane, Australia/St Joseph's Nudgee College) was locked in a competitive match before Carleton clinched the victory with a straight-set win to secure the 4-1 team result. Matches at No. 4 and No. 5 singles were left unfinished.
Freshman Mateo Torre Antezana (Cochabamba, Bolivia/Colegio Tiquipaya) competed at the top singles position for the Saints, facing a tough challenge against Carleton's Akshay Garapati.
St. Scholastica wraps up the season with a 13-7 overall record and its third MIAC playoff appearance, showing continued progress within the conference.
