DULUTH, Minn. -- The St. Scholastica men's tennis team is headed back to the MIAC Playoffs, securing the third seed and earning a trip to Carleton College for the semifinals on Friday, April 1. It marks the program's third MIAC postseason appearance—and first since the 2023-24 season—as the Saints continue to build momentum in the conference.
St. Scholastica's path to the postseason wasn't guaranteed until the very end. Entering the final match of the regular season with their playoff hopes hanging in the balance, the Saints delivered one of their most complete performances of the year, sweeping Macalester 7-0 at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center. The result not only clinched a playoff berth but vaulted the Saints into the No. 3 seed; a loss would have dropped them to sixth and out of contention.
The Saints have been powered all season by a balanced lineup featuring freshman Mateo Torre Antezana (Cochabamba, Bolivia/Colegio Tiquipaya), junior Dane Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), and senior Eamon Gerrard-Stace (Brisbane, Australia/St Joseph's Nudgee College). That trio has anchored both singles and doubles play, helping guide St. Scholastica through a competitive MIAC slate and into postseason position.
Awaiting the Saints in the semifinals is Carleton College, a familiar conference foe. The two teams last met in October, with the Knights earning a 5-2 victory. Friday's matchup presents an opportunity for St. Scholastica to turn the tables with a spot in the MIAC Championship on the line.
