DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica men's tennis team defeated Bethany Lutheran College 8-1 in a conference match Saturday afternoon at Arrowhead Tennis Center. The Saints have dropped only four singles matches all-time to Bethany Lutheran and only two in the last 23 meetings.
Doubles
The Saints swept doubles. The No. 1 team,
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and
Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 “Podil”), swept their match 8-0. At No. 2,
Ernesto Telles (El Salvador/Academia Britanica Cuscatleca) and Brendan Bourdeau defeated their Viking opponents 8-3.
Bryce Gadke (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield HS) and
Trace Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS), the No. 3 team, won with a final score of 8-5.
Singles
CSS won five out of six singles matches. Tykhonenko (No. 1) was victorious with a final score of 6-1, 6-2. At No. 2, Telles defeated his Bethany Lutheran opponent 6-2, 6-2. Bourdeau, No. 3, captured the win with a 6-1, 6-2 final score. No. 4 Engelstad picked up the win by beating his opponent 6-0, 6-2. Gadke (No. 5) won his first set 6-1 but lost his second set 6-4, causing his match to go into a third set super-breaker, which he won 10-6.
