DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team moved to 4-0 on Saturday with a 6-3 victory over Macalester College at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.
Doubles:
The Saints went on to win two of the three doubles matches. The No. 1 tandem of
Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 “Podil”) and
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) won 8-4. That was the same victorious score for the No. 2 team of
Ernesto Telles (El Salvador/Academia Britanica Cuscatleca) and
Bryce Gadke (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield HS).
Engelstad's win at No. 1 doubles was his 100
th career victory as a Saint, becoming the fifth player in program history to reach that milestone.
Singles:
Gadke kept it going in singles action, winning in straight sets at the No. 5 spot 6-4, 6-0. After
Trace Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) dropped a tight match in a third set super-breaker at the No. 6 spot, Engelstad won in straight sets at No. 4 by scores of 6-1, 6-2.
Macalester won at No. 1 singles to make the dual 4-3 Saints, but
Brendan Boudreau (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate) took care of business at No. 3 in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 to seal the dual match. Telles then won his match at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) to make the final 6-3.

The Saints (4-0) will have its first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match of the season when it takes on the University of Minnesota Morris at the Virginia Indoor Tennis Center next Friday.
