OWATONNA, Minn. (
csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica men's tennis conquered St. Olaf College 6-3 Saturday morning at the West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center. The last time the Saints have won against the Oles was in 2004.
Doubles
The Saints won all three doubles matches.
Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 “Podil”) and
Makar Grytsevych (Lviv, Ukraine/Lviv Linguistic Gymnasium (King)) , the No. 1 team, defeated their opponents 8-3. At No. 2,
Ernesto Telles (El Salvador/Academia Britanica Cuscatleca) and
Brendan Boudreau (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate) overcame the Oles 8-6.
Bryce Gadke (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield HS) and
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) beat out St. Olaf's No. 3 team 8-2.
Singles
St. Scholastica won three out of six singles matches. At. No. 1, Tykhonenko won his first set 6-4, but lost the second 7-5. The match was pushed into a third set, where Tykhonenko lost the set and his match with a final score of 12-10. Telles (No. 2) won 6-3, 6-0. Boudreau (No. 3) won both sets with a score of 6-3. In the No. 5 singles match, Engelstad defeated his St. Olaf 6-4, 6-1. Engelstad is now one career win away from 100.
