MINNEAPOLIS (csssaints.com) -- The No. 1-seeded St. Scholastica men's tennis team prevailed 9-0 over No. 4-seeded Martin Luther College in the semifinals of the UMAC Tournament in a very late match on Friday night.
Doubles:
All three of St. Scholastica's doubles teams were victorious with final scores of 8-1. The No. 1 team for the Saints was
Josh Stainer (Rowlands Castle, England/South Downs College) and
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS), winning their 10th doubles match of the season. In the No. 2 spot was
Bryce Gadke (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield HS) and
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)), while
Trace Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and
Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) were No. 3 for CSS.
Singles:
Engelstad (No. 2) did not drop a single game and won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 in the victory for the Saints.
Three Saints also did amazing well, only dropping one game. At. No. 1, Stainer defeated his Knight opponent 6-1, 6-0. Fontana in the No. 3 spot won 6-0, 6-1.
Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) (No. 6) was victorious, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Gadke (No. 4) was successful as well, with final scores of 6-1, 6-4. In the No. 5 spot, Lindholm was able to overtake his Martin Luther opponent 6-2, 6-4.

The No. 1 seeded Saints will take on the No. 2-seeded Northwestern Eagles tomorrow at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis for the tournament championship. Match time is scheduled 1:30 p.m.
