MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica's men's tennis team overpowered the University of Minnesota Morris 9-0 Sunday morning, the team's second sweep in a row after beating Bethany Lutheran Saturday and the team's fifth sweep of the season.
Doubles:
The Saints had very little difficulty in winning the doubles competition. The No. 1 doubles team for St. Scholastica, Josh Stainer (Rowlands Castle, England/South Downs College) and Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS), defeated the Cougars 8-2. Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) and Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS), St. Scholastica's No. 2 team, swept their match with a final score of 8-0. In the No. 3 spot, Zach Meikle (La Salle, Manitoba/Linden Christian School) and Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) won with an end score of 8-4.
Singles:
In the singles competition, the Saints won all by straight sets. the Saints' Stainer (No. 1) earned the win with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and in the No. 2 spot, Engelstad beat his opponent 6-1, 6-0. Fontana in the No. 3 spot was also triumphant, ending the day with scores of 6-0, 6-3. Lindholm, No. 4, swept his first match 6-0 and finished to get the win 6-4. No. 5 Tellander topped his Minnesota Morris opponent 6-2, 6-0 and Meikle (No. 6) bested his opponent 6-4, 6-4.
