DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica men's tennis team crushed North Central University (Minn.) 9-0 Saturday at Marshall School, extending its win streak to seven matches with the last four matches having 9-0 scores.
Doubles:
In the No. 1 spot for CSS,
Josh Stainer (Rowlands Castle, England/South Downs College) and
Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) were victorious with a final score of 8-2.
Caleb Thill (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) and
Jason Kent (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Altoona (Wis.) HS) (No. 2) struggled against their Ram opponents, but were able to bounce back and win 9-7.
The No. 3 team,
Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) and
Zach Meikle (La Salle, Manitoba/Linden Christian School), won by default.
Singles:
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) (No. 1) did not drop a single game, winning in straight sets of 6-0, 6-0. No. 2
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) defeated his North Central opponent by final scores of 6-0, 6-1, tying the program record for career singles victories.
At the No. 3 spot, Tellander was a winner, scoring 6-4, 6-0.
Trace Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) (No. 4) also was victorious, winning 6-3, 6-1.
Kent (No. 5) and Thill (No. 6) were winners by default.
