csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team got back to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action on Friday night with a 7-2 win over Martin Luther College at the Swanson Tennis Center.
DoublesThe No. 1 team of
Josh Stainer (Rowlands Castle, England/South Downs College) and
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) did not drop a game, winning 8-0. The No. 2 team of
Bryce Gadke (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield HS) and
Trace Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) were victorious 8-4.
SinglesMakar Grytsevych (Lviv, Ukraine/Lviv Linguistic Gymnasium (King)) played the No. 1 spot and won 6-1, 6-3. Engelstad (No. 2) blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0, while
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) defeated his opponent at the No. 3 spot 6-2, 6-1.
At No. 4,
Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) won by the same scores, but reversed 6-1, 6-2.
Jason Kent (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Altoona (Wis.) HS) then went to a third set super-breaker at the No. 5 spot and prevailed by scores of 6-3, 3-6, (10-8).
Up Next:The Saints (6-6, 3-0 UMAC) will have two matches tomorrow beginning with a non-conference match with Midland University at 11 a.m. and then a conference contest with Bethany Lutheran College at 2 p.m. Both matches will take place at the West Hills Tennis & Fitness Center in Owatonna.
