Notables-Stainer now has the fourth-most singles/doubles wins in program history
ORLANDO, Fla. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team defeated Hamline University in the morning, but fell to Birmingham-Southern College (Ala.) in the evening on Monday.
CSS 7, Hamline 2The Saints began the day with a 7-2 victory over the Pipers.
St. Scholastica won two of the three doubles matches. The No. 2 tandem of
Makar Grytsevych (Lviv, Ukraine/Lviv Linguistic Gymnasium (King)) and
Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) came out on top 8-5, while the No. 3 team of
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) and
Bryce Gadke (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield HS) won 8-3.

Josh Stainer (Rowlands Castle, England/South Downs College), No. 2
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and No. 4 Gadke won their singles matches in straight sets. Fontana (No. 3) needed to rally from a set down to win in a third set super-breaker 4-6, 6-3, (10-6). Lindholm (No. 5) also won in super-breaker by scores of 6-2, 2-6, (10-7).
Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) suffered his first defeat of his college career at No. 6 singles. Prior to today's loss he had been 20-0 thru three seasons.
Birmingham-Southern 8, CSS 1The Saints managed to win only one doubles match in a loss to Panthers in the nightcap.
Birmingham-Southern (7-2) is ranked No. 14 in the Atlantic South region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and won all six singles matches in straight sets.
The No. 3 doubles team of Fontana and Gadke won 8-5 for St. Scholastica's lone victory in the dual.
