Notables-CSS extends UMAC winning streak to 135 matches
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team handily defeated North Central University on Saturday by a score of 9-0 to open its season and open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.
Doubles:The No. 1 team of
Josh Stainer (Rowlands Castle, England/South Downs College) and
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) won 8-0. The No. 2 team of
Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) and
Bryce Gadke (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield HS) cruised to an 8-2 win. Finally, the No. 3 team of
Jason Kent (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Altoona (Wis.) HS) and
Caleb Thill (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) came out on top 8-3.
Singles:Stainer began his season with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No 1 spot. Sophomore newcomer
Makar Grytsevych (Lviv, Ukraine/Lviv Linguistic Gymnasium (King)) also won in straight sets at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-2.
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) (No. 3) won by scores of 6-0, 6-2.
Trace Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) (No. 4) was victorious 6-4, 6-0.
Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) (No. 5) dropped only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win. The last Saint to win was
Zach Meikle (La Salle, Manitoba/Linden Christian School) (No. 6) as he shut out his opponent 6-0, 6-0.
