Notables-Saints snap a three-match losing streak-CSS extends UMAC dual match win streak to 136
DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team shut out conference rival University of Northwestern 9-0 on Saturday at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.
Doubles:The No. 1 team of
Josh Stainer (Rowlands Castle, England/South Downs College) and
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) won 8-1. The No. 2 team of
Bryce Gadke (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield HS) and
Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) were victorious 8-3. Finally, the No. 3 team of
Trace Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) won 8-4.
Singles:Stainer (No. 1) won in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. The same goes for
Makar Grytsevych (Lviv, Ukraine/Lviv Linguistic Gymnasium (King)) at the No. 2 spot by scores of 6-3, 6-1.
Engelstad (No. 3) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win. Fontana (No. 4) also had little trouble with his opponent, winning 6-1, 6-2.
Gadke (No. 5) rallied from a set down to win 3-6, 6-1, (10-6). After winning the first set, Lindholm (No. 6) had to battle and win in a super-breaker 6-3, 3-6, (10-2) to complete the sweep.
Up Next:The Saints (2-3, 2-0 UMAC) will face the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse next Saturday at the Lifetime Fitness in White Bear Lake. Action is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
