DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team finished its regular season with a 9-0 advantage over the University of Minnesota Morris at the Arrowhead Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
No. 1 doubles team of
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and
Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) represented St. Scholastica with an 8-0 victory.
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) and
Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) won 8-3 at the No. 2 spot. The final doubles team to win was the No. 3 team of
Trace Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and
Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) by a score of 8-6.
James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) had an outstanding performance in the No. 1 singles spot with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) dropped only one game to win 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot. Fontana won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2, while Daniel Mauro was victorious by scores of 7-5, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot.
Taylor Grow (Minnetonka, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest HS) (No. 5) and
Zach Meikle (La Salle, Manitoba/Linden Christian School) (No. 6) each won by 6-2, 6-2 scores.
The Saints will travel down to Minneapolis on Friday for the UMAC Tournament at the Baseline Tennis Center. The semifinals will start at 6 p.m. against an opponent that has yet to be determined.
