Notables -CSS won all three of its doubles matches and five of the six singles matches-Each Saints win came in just two sets
DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team defeated Bethany Lutheran College by a score of 8-1 Friday night in a home match at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.
CSS won all three of its doubles matches by a combined score of 24-6. First
Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and
James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) won their top doubles match 8-2, then
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and
Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won theirs 8-4. The final doubles match win came by an 8-0 sweep courtesy of
Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and
Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS).
The singles matches consisted of five straight wins and a final loss for CSS. Stainer, Mack, Engelstad,
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)), and
Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) combined to defeat their opponents by a collective score of 60-17 with each match ending in straight sets.
Taylor Grow (Minnetonka, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest HS) fought hard, but fell in his match in three sets at 2-6, 6-2, 11-13 for the Saints lone loss.
CSS (14-8, 8-0 UMAC) will next be in actin this Saturday when they travel to St. Paul to take on the University of Northwestern at 2 p.m.
