DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team defeated Martin Luther College 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Marshall School.
Doubles:The Saints swept all three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and
James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School), along with the No. 2 tandem of
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) and
Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech), won by 8-1 scores. The No. 3 team of
Trace Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and
Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) won 8-0.
Singles:Engelstad (No. 1) and
Taylor Grow (Minnetonka, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest HS) (No. 6) both shut out their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Fontana (No. 2) won 6-1, 6-0. The set scores were flipped around for Lindholm (No. 3) who was victorious 6-0, 6-1. The final winner was
Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) (No. 4) by scores of 6-1, 6-2.
Up Next:The Saints (13-7, 7-0 UMAC) will go out of conference for the final time this season to face Saint John's University tomorrow at noon in St. Cloud.
