Saints Continue UMAC Undefeated Streak with Saturday Wins

Notables:
-St. Scholastica has yet to lose a doubles or singles match against UMAC competition this season.
-The Saints have now won four straight with all four victories coming against UMAC opponents.

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica men's tennis swept both of its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matches 9-0 on Saturday against Bethany Lutheran College and Martin Luther College.

The Saints won all three of their doubles matches against the Vikings starting with an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles for Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS).  Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles for CSS and the No. 3 team of Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) and Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) earned an 8-6 win.
 
CSS was a perfect 6-0 in singles competition.  Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) won in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles for the Saints followed by Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) taking No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-3. Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and then both (No. 4) Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and (No. 5) Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) won their matches 6-0, 6-2. Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) won at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-1 for the Saints.

The Saints swept the Knights in singles and doubles competition in their second match of the day.  
 
Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles for CSS. The Saints No. 2 team of Mauston and Bates won their match 8-2 and in No.3 doubles Lindholm and Combs won 8-1 for St. Scholastica.
 
Engelstad also earned a victory in the No. 1 singles spot for CSS defeating Kuschel 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets. Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles followed by straight set wins for Mauston (No. 3) 6-2, 6-0 and Bates (No. 4) 6-1, 6-1. Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) won 6-0, 6-1 for CSS at No. 5 singles and Zach Meikle (La Salle, Manitoba/Linden Christian School) complete the sweep 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.
 
St. Scholastica will complete its weekend road trip when the Saints take on the University of Minnesota-Morris on Sunday at 10 a.m.
