DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team defeated the University of Northwestern 9-0 Saturday afternoon at the Arrowhead Tennis Cneter in a match where it lost just seven games.

The Saints began their day with an 8-2 win in first doubles with Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) taking that match. CSS would follow that win up with two more doubles wins both of them ending 8-0. Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) combined for the second win, while Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) won the third.

In the singles matchups, Stainer won the first match 6-1, 6-0 and Mack won the second 6-2, 6-2.

Mack's match would be the last time that the Saints would lose a game as Engelstad, Fontana, Mauston, and Bates each won their singles matchups 6-0, 6-0 as CSS cruised to an easy UMAC victory over Northwestern.

CSS (9-7, 3-0) will next be in action when it travels to Bethany Lutheran College on April 11 with that match set to begin at 9 a.m.
