Notables:-The Saints have now won two straight and are 3-1 overall on the season.
-St. Scholastica is now 5-3 all-time against Concordia-Moorhead.
FARGO, N.D. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica men's tennis defeated Concordia College-Moorhead 7-2 on Sunday evening at Courts Plus.
St. Scholastica won two of three doubles matches against Concordia. After losing 8-5 at No.1 doubles,
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) won 8-1 at No.2 doubles and then
Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and
Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won 8-1 at No.3 doubles.
CSS also had the upper in singles winning five out of the six matches.
Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) needed a super-breaker to beat Isaac Toivonen at No.1 singles. Stainer took the first set 6-4 and then dropped the second in a tiebreaker 6-7 (7-2). Stainer took the super-breaker 10-4.
Zach Zitur would take No.2 singles for the Cobbers winning in a super-breaker 10-2, however, that would be the Saints only singles loss of the day.
Engelstad (No.3) won 6-0, 6-2. Fontana won 6-2, 6-2 at No.4 and Bates (No.5) shutout his opponent 6-0,6-0.
Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) (No.6) won the final singles match 6-0, 6-1 for St. Scholastica.
The Saints will be in action next on February 21 when they host St. Olaf College at Quad Cities Tennis For All in Virginia.
