Notables-Hamline drops first match of the season (2-1)-CSS' first-ever 9-0 victory over Hamline
VIRGINIA, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team responded from last Sunday's loss with a 9-0 victory on Saturday over Hamline University at Quad Cities Tennis For All.
At No. 1 doubles,
Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and
James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) had no problems winning 8-2. The same can be said for
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) at No. 2 doubles, winning 8-1. The No. 3 team of
Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and
Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and had use a tiebreaker to win their match by a score of 9-8 (7-2).
CSS would win all six singles matches in straight sets. Stainer (No.1) won 6-1, 6-2. Mack (No.2) blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Engelstad (No.3) came out on top 6-1, 6-1. Fontana (No.4) dropped only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win. Bates (No.5) won 6-2, 6-2 and Mauston (No.6) was victorious 6-2, 6-3.
The Saints (2-1) will travel to the Fargo-Moorhead area tomorrow to face Concordia College at Courts Plus. Action is set to begin at 4 p.m.
