Softball Opens The Spring Games With Losses to Thomas & Rhode Island

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The College of St. Scholastica softball team opened play at The Spring Games on Friday morning, dropping a pair of contests to Thomas (Maine) and Rhode Island College. With the results, the Saints move to 0-4 on the season.

Game One: Thomas (ME) 5, St. Scholastica 0

Thomas used timely hitting and a complete-game effort in the circle to defeat the Saints 5-0 in the opening game of the day.

St. Scholastica generated early traffic in the first inning when Sami Ernst (Forest Lake, MN./Forest Lake HS) singled and later advanced to third, but the Saints were unable to push a run across. The Terriers broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning on an unearned run before adding two more in the fourth and two in the sixth to pull away.

Ernst paced the Saints offensively with two of the team's three hits in the contest, while Kaylei Greene (San Bernardino, CA/Summit HS) added the other. St. Scholastica also drew five walks in the game but left nine runners on base.

In the circle, Aleah Shogren (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji HS) went the distance for the Saints, throwing six innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on 12 hits while striking out two.

Game Two: Rhode Island College 8, St. Scholastica 3

The Saints struck first in the second game of the day, but Rhode Island College responded with a big fourth inning to secure an 8-3 victory.

St. Scholastica jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Callie Casura (Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial HS) doubled to center field to score Sami Ernst (Forest Lake, MN./Forest Lake HS), and Kaylei Greene (San Bernardino, CA/Summit HS) followed with a double to left that brought home Casura.

Rhode Island College answered with two runs in the second inning to even the game before breaking it open with a six-run fourth inning.

Casura and Greene each finished with a hit and an RBI, while Abigail Gooden (Highlands Ranch, CO/Thunderridge HS) also recorded a hit for the Saints. Victoria Nelson (Lake Elmo, MN/Mahtomedi HS) added an RBI double in the sixth inning to score Adie Potratz (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji HS) for St. Scholastica's final run.

Bailey Ellison (Chaska, MN/Chaska HS) took the loss in the circle for the Saints, working 6.2 innings and allowing five runs while striking out one.

St. Scholastica will continue play at The Spring Games in Kissimmee throughout the week as the Saints look to pick up their first win of the 2026 season.
