KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The St. Scholastica softball team picked up its first two wins of the 2026 season Monday at The Spring Games, defeating Washington & Jefferson 5-2 before edging Anderson University 5-4 later in the day. The Saints improve to 2-4 overall with the sweep and will continue play in Florida on Tuesday against Dean and Ohio Northern.
Game 1: St. Scholastica 5, Washington & Jefferson 2
The Saints broke open a tight game with a four-run sixth inning to secure their first victory of the season over Washington & Jefferson.
St. Scholastica struck first in the opening inning. Sami Ernst (Forest Lake, MN./Forest Lake HS) drew a leadoff walk and later scored on an RBI single by Victoria Nelson (Lake Elmo, MN/Mahtomedi HS) to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
Washington & Jefferson responded with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-1 advantage, but the Saints answered in the sixth with their biggest offensive inning of the season.
Ally Breidenbach (St. Cloud, MN/Apollo HS) started the rally with a single and pinch runner Anna Azure (Brooklyn Park, MN/Osseo HS) came around to score on an RBI single from Bella Jack (St. Paul, MN/Highland Park Senior High School) to tie the game. Callie Casura (Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial HS) followed with an RBI fielder's choice to give St. Scholastica the lead before Katelyn Hackman (Oakdale, MN/Tartan HS) delivered the key hit of the inning, a two-run double to extend the advantage to 5-2.
Bella Jack (St. Paul, MN/Highland Park Senior High School) led the Saints at the plate with three hits and an RBI, while Breidenbach added two hits and Hackman drove in two runs as St. Scholastica finished with 11 hits.
Bailey Ellison (Chaska, MN/Chaska HS) earned the complete-game victory in the circle, allowing two runs on 10 hits while striking out six across seven innings.
Game 2: St. Scholastica 5, Anderson 4
The Saints carried their momentum into the second game of the day, holding off Anderson for a 5-4 victory to complete the sweep.
After Anderson scored in the top of the first, the Saints responded quickly. Santanna Heise (Rochester, MN/Mayo HS) doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Katelyn Hackman (Oakdale, MN/Tartan HS), while Kaylei Greene (San Bernardino, CA/Summit HS) added an RBI single to give St. Scholastica a 2-1 lead.
The Saints added another run in the fourth inning when Ally Breidenbach (St. Cloud, MN/Apollo HS) singled to center field to score Hackman and extend the lead to 3-1.
Anderson trimmed the deficit in the sixth inning, but St. Scholastica answered again in the bottom half. Abigail Gooden (Highlands Ranch, CO/Thunderridge HS) delivered an RBI single and Jadyn Lind (Hermantown, MN/Hermantown HS) followed with a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 5-2.
Anderson rallied in the seventh with two runs and the tying run on base before the Saints turned a game-ending double play to secure the win.
Hackman led the offense with two hits and two runs scored, while Breidenbach and Greene each recorded two hits as the Saints totaled 10 hits in the game.
Aleah Shogren (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji HS) earned the win in the circle, pitching all seven innings while allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits.
With the pair of wins, St. Scholastica improves to 2-4 on the season. The Saints will continue play at The Spring Games on Tuesday when they face Dean and Ohio Northern.
