DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica softball team closed out its 2026 season on a high note Sunday afternoon, holding off Augsburg for a 10-9 victory in a make-up game at Kenwood Field.
The game resumed from an earlier weather postponement this season, with the Saints already holding a 3-0 lead entering the bottom of the first inning.
St. Scholastica wasted no time adding to that advantage, plating another run in the resumed frame to extend the lead to 4-0. Payton Lang's (Lakeville, MN/Lakeville South HS) earlier two-RBI single and Rita Langford's (Webster, MN/Northfield Senior HS) RBI double had helped build the initial cushion before play was halted, and the Saints carried that momentum into the restart.
Augsburg responded quickly, tying the game at 4-4 in the third inning behind a pair of home runs, and the teams traded runs throughout the middle innings in a back-and-forth contest. The Saints regained the lead in the fifth when Katelyn Hackman (Oakdale, MN/Tartan HS) launched a two-run home run, part of a standout day at the plate.
Hackman led the offensive effort, going 3-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Kaylei Greene (San Bernardino, CA/Summit HS) also turned in a strong performance with two doubles and two RBIs, while Sami Ernst (Forest Lake, MN./Forest Lake HS) added a pair of hits and scored twice.
After Augsburg surged ahead 8-7 in the sixth, the Saints answered with their biggest sequence of the day. Greene tied the game with an RBI double before Hackman delivered again with a two-run single to put St. Scholastica back in front, 10-8.
Augsburg threatened in the seventh with a solo home run to cut the deficit to one, but the Saints held on to secure the victory.
Bailey Ellison (Chaska, MN/Chaska HS) earned the win in the circle, while Aleah Shogren (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji HS) provided key relief over the final five innings to help preserve the result.
The win snapped a 15-game losing streak for the Saints, who finished the year 8-32 overall and 2-20 in MIAC play.
