Softball Opens Season at UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex Dome With Two Losses

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The St. Scholastica softball team opened its 2026 season Friday inside the UWO Rec Plex Dome in Oshkosh, Wis., taking on Wis.-Oshkosh and Wis.-Superior in a season-opening doubleheader. While the Saints came up short in both contests, the day featured competitive stretches and key contributions as Scholastica began its spring campaign.

GAME ONE: Wis.-Oshkosh 12, St. Scholastica 0

In the opener, the Saints fell 12-0 in five innings against the Titans.

Wis.-Oshkosh scored once in the first inning before breaking the game open with an eight-run fourth. The Titans totaled 15 hits in the contest, using timely hitting to create separation midway through the game.

Victoria Nelson (Lake Elmo, MN/Mahtomedi HS) recorded the Saints' lone hit of the game, going 1-for-1 at the plate and drawing a walk. Rita Langford (Webster, MN/Northfield Senior HS) also reached base via walk as Scholastica worked to generate offense against a strong Titans pitching performance.

Aleah Shogren (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji HS) made the Opening Day start in the circle, tossing 3.1 innings and recording three strikeouts. Bailey Ellison (Chaska, MN/Chaska HS) provided relief over the final 1.2 innings.

Defensively, the Saints turned in several clean frames early and kept the game within reach before the Titans' decisive fourth-inning rally.

GAME TWO: Wis.-Superior 10, St. Scholastica 2

The Saints responded with improved offensive production in the second game, ultimately falling 10-2 to the Yellowjackets.

After trailing 8-0, Scholastica broke through in the top of the fifth with its first runs of the season. Abigail Gooden (Highlands Ranch, CO/Thunderridge HS) and Adie Potratz (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji HS) ignited the rally with back-to-back singles. Sami Ernst (Forest Lake, MN./Forest Lake HS) followed with an RBI single to score the Saints' first run of 2026, and Kaylei Greene (San Bernardino, CA/Summit HS) added an RBI single through the right side to trim the deficit to 8-2.

Scholastica finished with five hits in the contest, with Ernst, Greene, Gooden, Potratz and Anna Azure (Brooklyn Park, MN/Osseo HS) each recording one. Ernst and Greene drove in the Saints' two runs, highlighting a competitive late push.

Ellison earned the start in the circle in game two, while Shogren provided 2.1 innings of relief and limited additional damage after entering in the third inning.

St. Scholastica (0-2) will now turn its attention to its spring break trip to Kissimmee, Florida, where the Saints will continue their 2026 season.
