Men's Basketball Pulls Away from Saint Mary's in Strong Road Win

WINONA, Minn. – The College of St. Scholastica men's basketball team delivered a complete performance Saturday afternoon, cementing a decisive road victory at Saint Mary's University (Minn.) by a final score of 92–77.

St. Scholastica capitalized early, using hot perimeter shooting and steady defense to build a two-score lead by halftime, then extended the advantage in the second period to pull away. The Saints shot an impressive 56.7% from the field, including 48.3% from three-point range, while limiting Saint Mary's to under 40% shooting overall.

The Saints received standout play across the roster:

  • Koy Nelson (Port Wing, WI/South Shore HS) led all scorers with 26 points, connecting on 9 of 15 shots and an eye-popping 8 of 12 from deep. His shooting efficiency set the tone for the Saints' offensive attack.

  • Jayden Brown (Grantsburg, WI/Grantsburg HS) added 17 points on 7 of 8 shooting, while pulling down five rebounds and providing a physical presence all over the floor.

  • Davion Butler (South Phoenix, AZ/) contributed 8 points and hauled in a team-high seven rebounds, helping St. Scholastica control the glass.

  • Aaron Keykal (Princeton, MN/Princeton HS) chipped in six points with strong minutes off the bench.

St. Scholastica also got double-digit bench scoring, totaling 29 points from its reserves, a key factor in maintaining offensive balance.

Saint Mary's battled back at times, narrowing the margin in the second half, but the Saints responded with timely buckets and defensive stops that kept the score at bay. St. Scholastica finished with 42 points in the paint and forced several turnovers into transition opportunities.

With the win, St. Scholastica improved to 7–18 overall and 3–11 in MIAC play, ending a difficult stretch and providing a strong boost of confidence as the conference slate winds down.
