DULUTH, Minn. — St. Scholastica controlled the tempo for most of the afternoon and pulled away down the stretch to earn a 93–73 MIAC victory over Bethel on Saturday at Reif Gymnasium.
After Bethel opened the scoring with an early three, the Saints quickly settled in and responded with a strong first-half run to take command. St. Scholastica built separation behind efficient ball movement and consistent paint production, pushing the margin into double digits midway through the half and carrying a 45–32 advantage into the locker room.
The Saints continued to apply pressure coming out of the break, opening the second half with a quick scoring surge to stretch the lead beyond 15. Bethel made several pushes to trim the margin, but St. Scholastica answered each time with balanced scoring and strong defensive rebounding, gradually extending the lead to more than 20 as the game moved into the final stretch.
Koy Nelson (Port Wing, WI/South Shore HS) led all scorers with 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting, providing steady production throughout the game. Davion Butler (South Phoenix, AZ/) added 18 points and seven assists while Jayden Brown (Grantsburg, WI/Grantsburg HS) chipped in 15 points and three steals. Aaron Keykal (Princeton, MN/Princeton HS) finished with 12 points and four rebounds, and Hayden Kloos (Chaska, MN/Holy Family HS) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points and seven boards.
As a team, the Saints shot an efficient 58.5 percent from the field and recorded 20 points off turnovers, consistently converting defensive stops into transition opportunities. St. Scholastica also scored 60 points in the paint and won the rebounding battle with 35 total boards.
The victory improves the Saints to 6–12 overall and 2–5 in MIAC play. St. Scholastica returns to conference action later this week against nationally-ranked Gustavus Adolphus.
