Saints Lose to No. 12 Gustavus in Home MIAC Matchup

St. Scholastica hosted nationally ranked No. 12 Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday night at Reif Gymnasium, with the Gusties pulling away for a 92–56 win in MIAC play.

Gustavus set the tone early, opening the game with a quick 13–4 run behind perimeter shooting and transition baskets. The Saints worked to settle in offensively as the half progressed, with Koy Nelson (Port Wing, WI/South Shore HS) scoring consistently in the paint and Carlos Johnson (Benton Harbor, MI/Benton Harbor HS) providing energy off the bench, but Gustavus continued to build separation and carried a 47–26 lead into halftime.

St. Scholastica came out with improved offensive rhythm in the second half, knocking down six three-pointers after intermission and showing better ball movement. Nelson finished with a team-high 18 points, while Jayden Brown (Grantsburg, WI/Grantsburg HS) added 13 points and Davion Butler (South Phoenix, AZ/) chipped in 11. Johnson contributed eight points and six rebounds off the bench, and Aaron Keykal (Princeton, MN/Princeton HS) led the Saints on the glass with six rebounds while adding three assists.

Gustavus maintained its momentum throughout the second half with balanced scoring and efficient shooting, extending the margin as the game wore on. The Gusties finished the night shooting 55.2 percent from the field and 51.6 percent from three-point range, while St. Scholastica continued to compete through the final horn.

The Saints will now look ahead to conference opponent Carleton this weekend.
