Four Saints Baseball Players Receive MIAC All-Conference Awards

5/14/2025 3:39:00 PM

With the 2025 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) season in the books, the conference announced its annual baseball awards on Tuesday and four Saints made the cut, with one being honored a historic third time. Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS), the all-around graduate utility player was honored at the third base position. This 2025 award was the third time Schelonka made the all-conference team, following appearances in 2024 and 2023, which makes him one of only 87 players in MIAC history to receive this designation three times. Schelonka was second in the MIAC in both batting average and OPS, while hitting the fourth most home runs and being top fifteen in the conference in RBIs. He led the Saints in all of these categories and now ends his career as the Saints all-time career hits leader with 247.

The Saints had two starting pitchers named to the all-conference team, with senior Matt Forrest (Oakdale, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) and junior Zack Hlinsky (Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) being recognized. Hlinsky would have led the MIAC in ERA, but he did not meet the minimum innings requirement. Nonetheless, he gave up only a single earned run all year and had a 0.28 ERA and threw three complete game shutouts throughout the season to fortify the Saints pitching rotation. Similarly impressive, Matt Forrest (Oakdale, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) was second in the MIAC among qualified starters in ERA with a 1.75 average. He threw two complete game shutouts, including a one-hit, no walk outing against Hamline that saw him win D3baseball.com starting pitcher of the week.

Senior catcher Kyle Oswald (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) was honored as MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention, following up his 2024 campaign that saw him make the first team. Oswald hit a very impressive .349 on the year and was a big part of helping the pitching staff put out those impressive performances. He picked up eleven RBIs and scored eleven runs throughout the 2025 campaign to help the Saints finish third in runs scored in the MIAC.

The Saints will be saying goodbye to Oswald, Forrest, and Schelonka, while Hlinsky looks to be the ace for the Saints pitching staff next year.
