Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium),
Katia Bartels (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View HS),
Maria Sosa (Mazatenango, Guatemala/Instituto de Educación a Distancia),
Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí),
Jonas Abeleda (Sydney, Australia/St Aloysius' College),
Reece Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS),
Jack Onkka (Thief River Falls, Minn./Thief River Falls HS), and
Andy Shaffer (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) have been named Academic All-District® from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) for their contributions throughout the Saints 2024-25 campaign.
Each school can nominate a select number of student-athletes that meet the following criteria:
• at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
• at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.
• compete in at least 60 percent of the institution's matches.
Maier, who has now won three consecutive CSC Academic All-District awards, played all sixteen of her singles matches at the No. 1 position for the Saints to the tune of an overall singles record of 10-6 with a 3-5 MIAC record against each school's top dog. She also was recently named to the MIAC All-Conference Singles and All-Playoff teams for the 2024-25 season.
This was the second consecutive CSC Academic All-District designation for Bartels and Benitez. Bartels played matches at both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles position this year for the Saints, picking up an even record of 1-1 in the ace spot, while playing the majority of her matches in the second spot with a 10-8 overall record and a 4-6 MIAC record. She also received her second MIAC All-Conference Singles Team Honorable Mention nomination last week, wrapping up her senior season. Benitez split time for the Saints in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spot throughout the year for an impressive overall record of 12-5 and 4-3 in conference play. In addition to her second career CSC award, Benitez recently was recognized as MIAC All-Conference Doubles Team Honorable Mention.
Sosa was the fourth Saint receive the CSC Academic All-District spot. She compiled a 12-3 overall and 6-2 MIAC record, playing all up and down the lineup throughout the year for the Saints. She also was named MIAC All-Conference Doubles Team Honorable Mention, as the doubles pairing with Benitez.
On the men's side,
Jonas Abeleda (Sydney, Australia/St Aloysius' College) was selected to his second consecutive CSC Academic All-District team. The senior put together a 6-10 singles and 7-9 doubles record in 2024-25 at the No. 1 spot in each category. Following him up, senior
Reece Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) was named to his first career all-district team. Patten compiled a 3-4 singles record at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots and a 10-6 doubles record to get a nice honor in his final year with the Saints.
Jack Onkka (Thief River Falls, Minn./Thief River Falls HS) has now been honored with back-to-back CSC awards in addition to being named as MIAC Doubles Team All-Conference last week. The junior saw sparse action in the singles category throughout the year, but teamed up with
Dane Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) for a 14-3 doubles record throughout the season. Lastly, junior
Andy Shaffer (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) received his first career academic all-district spot after putting up a 3-7 singles record, but a positive 2-1 MIAC record during the 2024-25 campaign.
