Softball Overpowered by Royals on Senior Night

Duluth, MN - The Saints softball team took on the Royals of Bethel University today for their senior night doubleheader here at Kenwood field. Despite the Saints starting off the first game in the lead, the Royals were able to overpower the Saints to take home the sweep.

Game One: CSS 1, Bethel University 9

The Saints started off the first game of senior night in the lead, with Victoria Nelson (Lake Elmo, Minn./Mahtomedi High School) scoring to take a 1-0 lead thanks to a single hit from Sami Ernst (Forest Lake, MN./Forest Lake HS).

In the next inning, the Royals fought back, claiming a 2-1 lead over the Saints after scoring two runs.

After a scoreless few innings, the Royals extended their lead by scoring four more runs, making the score 6-1.

The Saints could not find their form, and the Royals scored three more runs between the sixth and seventh innings, taking the first game with a 9-1 win over the Saints.

Game Two: CSS 1, Bethel University 7

The Royals were the first to strike in game two, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning for an early 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Jadyn Lind (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) hit a single which allowed Bussey to score a run for the Saints, cutting the Royals' lead to 3-1.

Bethel picked back up in the top of the fourth, tacking on an additional run to extend their lead to 4-1.

Despite only a few chances from the Saints, the Royals gained the edge once again, scoring twice more in the top of the sixth and once more in the seventh. The Saints, unable to keep them out, ultimately lost the second game 7-1.
