NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Saints Track and Field traveled to Northfield, MN to participate in a rare Friday evening competition. St. Olaf's Tostrud Center hosted Carleton, Hamline, Macalester, and St. Ben's to take a final shot at improving their form before the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships next weekend in Collegeville.
Ella Stritesky (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) grabbed runner-up honors in the weight throw with a toss of 14.74m (48-04.50).
Ella Engen (Clearbrook, Minn./Clearbrook-Gonvick HS) placed fifth in the same event with a throw of 13.87m (45-06.25).
Regan DeWitt (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) ran a fierce race to place second in the 800m dash. Hanging onto a quick pack off the gun, DeWitt stayed patient and crept up a few places through the middle laps. In the final surge, DeWitt safely moved into second and inched close to the leader before running out of real estate. DeWitt's finishing time of 2:20.89 moves her up to fifth overall on the Saints all-time list.
Grace McCormick (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld HS) ran a gutsy race with the lead pack in the mile on Friday evening. The pace was hot and McCormick was up for the challenge. Although she lost contact in the final laps, McCormick nearly matched her personal best with a fourth place finish in 5:24.43.
Kayla Nelson (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) placed fifth overall in the 400m dash with a finishing time of 1:03.58. First year distance standout Abby Wood muscled her way through a stacked 3000m field to place eight overall in a personal best time of 11:32.46.
Two Saints made the long jump final after a quality preliminary round.
Shayna Wick () led the way with a 4.87m (15-11.75) jump to place sixth.
Elli Schritz (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) wasn't far behind with a new personal record distance of 4.77m (15.07.85).
