Saints Track and Field Finds Stride in Superior

Saints Track and Field traveled across the bridge to take on regional competition at University of Wisconsin – Superior. University of Wisconsin – River Falls, Northwestern University, and University of Minnesota – Duluth were also in attendance. The event kicked off with a memorial to remember Sam Maday, a well-respected member of the Twin Ports track and field community, who passed away unexpectedly in 2021. The event is named the Maday Classic in his honor.

Ella Stritesky (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) threw a personal best to place second overall in the weight throw competition. Her mark of 14.98m (49-01.75) improved Stritesky's standing as the sixth farthest in this event in school history.

Ava Fink (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) qualified for the 60m dash finals after snagging one of two non-automatic qualifying times. Fink improved on her seed and finished sixth overall in a time of 8.27 seconds.

First year Saint and point scorer on the Saints third-place MIAC Cross Country team, Abby Wood, ran a personal best time in the mile. She placed third in the event with a of 5:46.66.

Jaden Ellefson (Saginaw, Minn./South Ridge HS) finished seventh overall in the 400m dash with a season best time of 1:02.86. Her teammate Kayla Nelson (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) wasn't far off in the ninth with a time of 1:03.87.

Sophomore Captain Regan DeWitt (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) stretched out the field in the 1000m run. She ran a personal best time of 3:03.59 to finish second overall. Her time surpassed the previous meet record in the event and now makes DeWitt the third fastest Saint of all time in the event.

Adelyn McCorison () paced her heat with a huge victory and personal best in the 800m dash. McCorison's time of 2:32.12 was good for sixth place overall.

Grace McCormick (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld HS) hung with the leaders for the bulk of the 25 lap 5000m race. Placing fouth overall with a time of 18:53.77, McCormick is now sixth overall on the Saints all-time list. This is McCormick's third event of the season with a first-time entry to the school record list. Her time also beat the previous meet record.

In the long jump, the Saints were led by Shayna Wick () with a sixth place finish. Elli Schritz (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) placed ninth with a personal best leap of 4.72m (15-06).

Ella Engen (Clearbrook, Minn./Clearbrook-Gonvick HS) placed seventh in the shot put with a toss of 11.26m (36-11.5).

The 4x400m relay team made up of Ellefson, Wick, Fink, and Nelson ran a massive season best time of 4:14.29 to finish runner-up in the meet.

The Saints have one more regular season track meet next weekend before shifting their focus on the MIAC Indoor Championships on February 28 th and March 1st .
