McCormick Wins at UND Open

Grand Forks, ND -- Saints track and field traveled across the tundra to Grand Forks over the weekend. The UND Open brought teams from multiple divisions together to compete on a state-of-the-art 300m indoor facility.

Ella Engen (Clearbrook, Minn./Clearbrook-Gonvick HS) kicked off the weekend with a rare indoor discus competition on Friday night. Engen placed eighth overall to lead the Saints with a toss of 35.17m (115-04). Engen also placed 11 th overall in the shot put with her throw of 11.16m (36-07.50).

In the weight throw competition, Ella Stritesky (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) qualified for the final with a consistent series in the circle. Stritesky's best heave of 14.74m (48-04.50) also placed her eight place overall in the event.

Freshman Shayna Wick () hit 4.89m (16-00.50) to place 13 th in the long jump. Wick also doubled back to lead the Saints in the 200m dash with a personal record time of 27.14 seconds. This 200m result puts Wick into a tie for ninth on the all-time performance list.


Sophomore captain Regan DeWitt (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) raced her way to third place in the 800m run in a time of 2:23.11. The distance squad wrapped up action for the Saints in the 3000m race. Sophomore Grace McCormick (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld HS) sat towards the front of the race until she was ready to make her move. With a blistering last lap, McCormick won in commanding fashion with a personal best time of 10:47.33. This is the eighth fastest
time in school history.

Fellow sophomore MollyKate Hagen (Plainview, Minn./Plainview-Elgin-Millville HS) placed fifth in the same race with a huge personal best time of 10:56.28.
