MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – St. Scholastica fought throughout their MIAC road opener on Wednesday night but ultimately fell 82–60 to a hot-shooting Augsburg squad inside Si Melby Hall. The Saints put together stretches of strong play and saw multiple contributors step up, but a big first half by the Auggies created a gap that proved difficult to close.
Augsburg opened the game with a blistering shooting pace, hitting 16 first-half field goals and converting 11 of 12 free throws to build a 48–23 halftime lead. Despite the deficit, the Saints continued to battle, tightening their defense and matching Augsburg nearly shot-for-shot in the second half—CSS scored 37 after the break, just three fewer than the Auggies' 34.
Tanner Thomson (Woodbury, MN/Stillwater HS) led the Saints with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting, adding six rebounds and a block in another steady all-around performance. Koy Nelson (Port Wing, WI/South Shore HS) posted nine points, four assists, and three steals, providing energy on both ends of the floor. Davion Butler (South Phoenix, AZ/) added nine points and six boards, while Drelyn Jones (Franklin Park, IL/East Leyden HS) scored six and contributed two steals.
St. Scholastica found success inside, outscoring Augsburg 36–36 in the paint and generating 14 points off turnovers. The Saints' depth also made an impact, with 15 points off the bench and several young players logging meaningful minutes.
Augsburg was paced by a 20-point double-double from JJ Semanko and a 14-point outing from Elias Batala.
The Saints drop to 4-3 overall, and 0-1 in MIAC play. Up next they're back at home to host Carleton College on Saturday, December 6 at 3:00 p.m.
