From the Field
After two scoreless innings from Ethan Zimmerman (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) on the mound, Sam Shopbell (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake HS (Fayetteville CC)), who singled earlier in the bottom of the second, scored the game's first run on an error to put CSS in front 1-0.
Nathan Wickham (Elkhorn, Neb./Elkhorn HS (Concordia-Neb.)) and Kyle Oswald (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) were able to get on base to begin the bottom of the third inning, and with one out, Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) hit a deep home run to center field for his ninth homer on the season, as the Saints extended its lead to 4-0.
Wisconsin-Superior picked up a run in the top of the fourth inning, but the Saints still held a 4-1 lead after 3 ½ innings.
After Alex Haapajoki (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS (Central Lakes)) and Mitchell Novak (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) reached base to open the bottom of the fourth, Wickham laced an RBI double into the gap that scored one and made the score 5-1. After Novak scored on the next at-bat on a wild pitch, Oswald tripled to drive in Wickham and make the score 7-1. The Saints would grab one more run in the inning on a sacrifice fly from Adam Braun (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS (Central Lakes CC)) to put CSS in front 8-1.

Braun picked up another RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning, driving in Luke Schemenauer (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS), who reached base and stole second to begin the inning, as the Saints now led 11-4. Haapajoki would drive in Mason Argir (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS (Central Lakes College)), who pinch-ran for Schelonka, to give CSS an eight-run lead.
Spencer Schmidt (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) was called on to finish the sixth inning and he was able to fire a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh inning in the freshman's third appearance in his career.
Back-to-back singles in the bottom of the seventh inning got the Saints the two baserunners it needed to complete the 10-run mercy rule. After Schemenauer singled to load the bases, Finley Spicer (Aberdeen, N.C./Union Pines HS (Limestone University)) and Argir both drew walks to bring in the two runs, as the Saints finished off the Yellowjackets by a score of 14-4 in today's matchup.
