COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The College of St. Scholastica baseball team fell today in a doubleheader against one of its conference opponents in the Johnnies from St. John's. The Saints fell in a close battle in the first game of the afternoon by a score of 4-2, but in the second game, the Johnnies brought across 11 runs to come away with an 11-2 victory and a sweep over CSS today.
Game One: SJU: 4, CSS: 2
The Saints were able to get two base runners on early after singles from Kyle Oswald (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) and Adam Braun (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS (Central Lakes CC)), and Oswald would score later in the inning to take a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning.
St. John's picked up a run of its own in the bottom of the first on an RBI double to tie the game at 1-1.
Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) was handed the task of starting in today's first game and was able to pick up three strikeouts across the bottom of the second and third innings, keeping the score at 1-1.
The Johnnies broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring three runs in the inning, to take a 4-1 lead over CSS.
The Saints were able to bring home a run in the top of the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to two runs, as the Saints trailed 4-2.
St. John's held the Saints' bats in check for the top of the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, to hold on to its lead and defeat the Saints by a score of 4-2 in game one.
Game Two: SJU: 11, CSS: 2
After the Saints were held scoreless in the top of the first inning in game two, the Johnnies scored three runs in its half of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead.
St. John's added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning, extending its lead to 5-0.
Oswald doubled to begin the fourth inning for the Saints, followed with a single by Schelonka two batters later, to put runners on the corners with just one out in the inning. Oswald would score a batter later on a steal attempt by Schelonka and later he would score on a wild pitch, with the score sitting at 5-2.
St. John's scored five runs across the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, extending its lead to 10-2.
After the Johnnies scored its eleventh run in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Saints were retired in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, respectively, as St. John's came away with an 11-2 victory in game two to complete the sweep in today's doubleheader.

The Saints (20-13- 7-9) will be back in action on Monday, where they host the UW-Superior Yellowjackets at Wade Stadium in the final home game of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 P.M.
