DULUTH, Minn. – The Saints Scholastica Softball team hosted a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) doubleheader against the Scots' of Macalester College, today, April 21st.

Game One, CSS 10, MAC 11
Game one would be a high-energy game from the jump. The first inning would be a warm-up for both teams to dip their toes into the water of this competition, the scoring would not come until the second inning.

The Saints would open the game with a huge play. Lauren Laviano (Maplewood, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) would be walked, securing first easily, and Megan Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) would reach first off a pitching error, setting the Saints up for something big with two runners and no outs. Payton Lang (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) would get out off a Sacrifice bunt, however, that would allow the two runners to advance to second and third respectively.

Following that, Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS) would step up to the plate, and after a few pitches, she would get a massive hit, sending the ball well past the left field fence for a home run, giving the Saints a beautiful and early three-run lead. The next great play for the Saints would occur in the same inning. It would start with Emma Bolin (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium HS) taking a pitch to the body, giving her first base. Kair Breuer singled to left field allowing Bolin to advance to second. Following this, the Scotts would make a pitching change hoping for some luck in the game, but it would not stop what was to come. Right after the substitution, Bolin would steal third and Breuer would steal second.

Grace Hadlich (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) would come up to bat, and single to center field allowing the two Saints to score and giving Hadlich her two RBI. This would bring the Saints lead up to five at the end of the fifth inning.

It would not take long for the Saints to score again. Coming off another inning of the Scots' remaining scoreless, the Saints would take advantage of their lead and score two more runs. The inning would start with one out for the Saints, but following that, Bussey would be walked, and Payton Lang (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) would single to center field, allowing Bussey to advance to second.

Addie Potratz would be up next and she too would be walked, loading the bases for the Saints. The Saints would suffer another out, but that would not phase them. Bolin would hit a single to right field, allowing Bussey and Lang to score two more runs for the Saints, extending their lead to seven, and giving Bolin two RBI. The third inning would come to an end with a final score of 7-0.

It was a this point in the game where the Macalester would mount their comeback. They would start by scoring two unanswered runs in the fourth inning. And seven more runs in the fifth inning. The Saints would bite back in the fifth, with two more runs. The Saints inning would start with Bussey once again getting walked. She would go on to steal a second as a result of a wild pitch. Lang would hit a single to the shortstop but she was quick enough to make it to first safely. Potratz would be up to bat next, and she would hit a single down the line, getting her on first, and advancing Lang and Bussey to second and third respectively.

The Scots' would make another pitching change at this point. Dail would hit a single to left center field, allowing Bussey and Lang to score, giving Dail two more RBI, and the Saints to tie the game 9-9.

Dail would also advance to second. Potratz would be tagged out during this play but the Saints were still very much in it. The Saints would suffer another out, but they still had another batter to go. Their next player up to bat, Breuer would hit a double to left field, letting her advance to second and Dail to home, scoring the Saints' ninth run, the Saints would take the lead with this play, and Breuer would get an RBI. The fifth inning would come to an end with the Saints up 10-9.

The Scots' would answer back in the sixth inning scoring two more runs. The Saints would not answer back in the sixth or seventh inning, bringing the game to an end with a final score of 10-11.

Game Two, CSS 1, MAC 9
The Saints' bats would be cold in game two, while the Scots' scoring frenzy would start in the second inning, with recording four runs.

The third inning was uneventful, with neither team scoring any runs. Macalester would continue their run in the fourth inning, scoring two more runs. The Saints would not bite back, bringing the Scots' lead to six runs.

The Saints' defense would stand strong in the fifth, not letting up any more runs.

The sixth inning would be the final time to strike for the Saints, and they knew this. The Scots' would start things off by scoring three runs, giving them a 0-9 lead when the Saints would hit the plate.

The Saints would start with an out. Following that, Jadyn Lind (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) would hit a single to right center field. Following another out, Bolin would be hit by a pitch, allowing Lind to advance to second, and Bolin to take first. Breuer would hit a double to center field allowing Bolin to advance to third, and letting Lind reach some, putting the Saints on the board for the first time in the game.

Hadlich would be hit by a pitch, taking first. The Saints would suffer their third and final out, with the bases loaded, ending the game with a final score of 1-9.
