MEQUON, Wis. – The St. Scholastica baseball team fell today in a doubleheader matchup against Concordia University (Wis.) this afternoon. It was the first action the Saints had seen after a successful trip in the Russmatt Invitational, and although the Saints offense was able to repeat some of its recent success, the Saints fell by scores of 4-3 and 11-9, respectively.

Game One: CON: 4, CSS: 3
The Saints were gifted its first runs of the game, with both runs scoring in the top of the first on Falcon errors, as the Saints claimed an early 2-0 lead.

After the Falcons were able to get a pair of base runners on to start the inning, a three-run home run would put the Falcons in front, holding a 3-2 lead over the Saints.

CSS had an opportunity to take back the lead in the top of the second inning, with Jack Tiemann (Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy HS), Mitchell Novak (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS), and Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) all earning walks, but it would be for not, with the score still sitting at 3-2.

After Sam Shopbell (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake HS (Fayetteville CC)) doubled to lead off the top of the third inning, Kyle Oswald (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) picked up an RBI later in the inning, tying the game at 3-3.

Concordia reclaimed its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring on an RBI single, to lead CSS by a score of 4-3.

The Saints were able to put together a number of hits across the later innings, but the Falcons were able to shut down any momentum CSS would have, coming away with a 4-3 victory in game one of the doubleheader.

Game Two: CON: 11, CSS: 9

The Falcons were able to strike first in the second game of the day in the bottom of the first, tallying four runs on four hits to take a 4-0 lead over CSS after one inning of play.

St. Scholastica got its first run of the game in the top of the third inning, coming on a Novak triple that scored Tiemann, who singled earlier in the inning, cutting into the Falcons lead trailing 4-1.

Concordia added another run to its total with a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning, reclaiming a four run lead over the Saints.

Jumping to the top of the fifth inning, Tiemann and Nathan Wickham (Elkhorn, Neb./Elkhorn HS (Concordia-Neb.)) both got on base to put two men on with no outs in the inning. One batter later, Luke Schemenauer (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS) was able to drive in Tiemann on an RBI double. Novak then followed it up with a two-RBI double that cut the Saints deficit to just one run.

The Saints picked up two more runs in the inning, with Finley Spicer (Aberdeen, N.C./Union Pines HS (Limestone University)) and Kyle Baker (Benson, Ariz./Benson HS (Central Lakes College)) both picking up RBIs in the process, taking a 6-5 lead over the Falcons.

CSS was able to pick up two more runs in the top of the sixth inning, with Novak and Schelonka picking up RBIs to put the Saints in front 8-5.

The Falcons responded with a six-run inning in the bottom of the sixth inning, jumping out to a 11-8 lead after six innings.

With its back against the wall, the Saints offense was able to put up a run in the top of the seventh inning, with Tiemann driving in Shopbell, but the Falcons were able to retire the Saints and take a 11-9 victory in game two and sweep the Saints in today's doubleheader.
