DAVENPORT, Fla. – The St. Scholastica baseball team put together two strong performances against the University of Maine-Farmington today in a doubleheader action. A dominant pitching staff and efficient offense provided a big 15-3 victory in game one, and the offensive production was just as strong in game two, coming away with a 15-0 victory in game two.

Game One: CSS: 15, Maine-Farmington: 3
Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) got the Saints offense started in the top of the first inning after being walked and stealing both second and third base. After Adam Braun (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS (Central Lakes CC)) and Cody Horon (Union Grove, Wis./Union Grove HS (Northern State University)) both reached base, the Saints got its first run of the game after Jack Tiemann (Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy HS) drew a walk.

The next two batters for CSS, Kyle Oswald (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) and Alex Haapajoki (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS (Central Lakes)) would both drive in runs, with the duo both recording two-RBI singles, as CSS led 5-0 after the top of the first.

Matt Juza (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS) got the start in game one for CSS, and he was able to begin the day with an efficient first inning, striking out two Beaver batters in the first inning.

Juza continued his dominance in the bottom of the second, adding two more strikeouts to his total, in a 1-2-3 inning.

After Maine-Farmington got its first run of the afternoon on an RBI single in the bottom of the third, the Saints began the top of the fourth inning with singles from Ryan Garlick (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS (Iowa Central CC)) and Mitchell Novak (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS). Both runners would be able to score on the next batter, as Schelonka drove both runners in on a two-RBI double.

Later in the inning, Schelonka would score on an RBI single by Braun, but the Saints would be far from done in the inning, with Oswald, Haapajoki, and Garlick all recording RBIs. CSS capped off the inning with a Schelonka triple that drove in three more runners, as the Saints now led 14-1 over the Beavers.

Jumping to the top of the sixth, after Oswald drew a walk to open the inning, Haapajoki picked up another RBI on a triple to extend CSS lead to 15-1.

Maine-Farmington would add two more runs late in the seventh inning, but it would not be enough, as CSS captured game one by a final score of 15-3.

Game Two: CSS: 15, Maine-Farmington: 0
The Saints pitching staff got another strong start to game two, with Jacob Worley (Ocoee, Fla./Legacy Charter HS (Crown College)) striking out two to start the game.

After Schelonka doubled and stole third, the Saints got its first run of the game on a balk to take a 1-0 lead after one inning.

Luke Schemenauer (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS) began the bottom of the second inning with a single, and after Haapajoki drew a walk, Novak singled to extend CSS' lead to 3-0. The Saints would pick up four more runs in the inning, three of which would score on a Saints extra-base hit that came from Stubbles and Sam Shopbell (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake HS (Fayetteville CC)).

CSS wasted no time adding to its total in the bottom of the third inning, with Schelonka driving in two runs on a two-RBI double, and Braun and Stubbles also picking up RBIs in the inning, putting CSS firmly in front leading 11-0.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, CSS picked up three more runs, with Novak driving in Schemenauer, and Stubbles driving in two more runs on a two-RBI double, giving CSS a 14-0 lead over Maine-Farmington.

CSS would add the final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, with Joe Udd (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) driving in a runner, giving the Saints a 15-0 lead, a lead they would hold on to for the reminder of the game with Kyle Baker (Benson, Ariz./Benson HS (Central Lakes College)) and Spencer Schmidt (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) providing scoreless fifth and sixth innings, respectively.
