COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team fell in its contest this afternoon against the MIAC first-place Johnnies from St. John's. The Johnnies were able to put together a high quality shooting performance, shooting 55.6% from the field as a team, as the Saints fell in today's matchup by a score of 101-62.
How it Happened
The Saints got early baskets from Andre Crockett Jr. (Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS (Rochester Community College)) and Jacquez Overstreet (Appleton, Wis./Oshkosh West (Marian University)), but the Johnnies took an early 11-6 lead over CSS.
Noah Winesett's (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) three-pointer helped stop the bleeding for the Saints, as the Johnnies went on an 18-3 run, leading 29-8.
Moe Washington (Silver Spring, Md./Hibbing Community College) would score two of the next three field goals for the Saints on layups, with Jeff Moore (Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) converting a three-pointer on the other field goal, as the Johnnie's still held a 17-point lead.
The Saints last field goals of the half would come courtesy of layups from Luke Raymond (Hudson, Wis./Concordia Academy (UW-River Falls)) and Aaron Keykal (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS), as well as a jumper from Overstreet, as St. John's took a 56-29 lead into the half.
Winesett began the second half for CSS converting a three-pointer and the free throw that followed after being fouled, and would score the next field goal for the Saints on a layup.
Kevin Thomas (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) and Crockett Jr. would score next for the Saints, with Thomas hitting a jumper and Crockett Jr. finishing a fastbreak layup on a turnover he forced with a steal, but the Johnnie's still led by a wide margin.
Washington went on a run of his own for CSS, scoring seven points on three possessions, scoring on a layup, jumper, and three-pointer.
The Saints would get a pair of jumpers from Tanner Thomson (Woodbury, Minn./Stillwater HS) and Koy Nelson (Port Wing, Wis./South Shore HS), who both scored their first points of the game, as the score now sat at 82-53.
The Saints last nine points of the game all came from beyond-the-arc, with Thomson, Washington, and Winesett all converting, as the Johnnies closed out today's game with a 101-62 victory.
