DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team fell in its home finale this evening, taking on the Pipers from Hamline. The Saints took a one-point lead into the half, but the Pipers rode a 60% shooting percentage in the second half, taking tonight's matchup by a score of 84-68.
How it Happened
Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Jeff Moore (Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) got the Saints first field goals of the game, with Winesett scoring on a layup, and Moore hitting a three-pointer, as Hamline led 8-7.
The Saints were able to capture its first lead of the night when Tanner Thomson (Woodbury, Minn./Stillwater HS) and Koy Nelson (Port Wing, Wis./South Shore HS) both scored on layups. After the Pipers took a brief lead. Moe Washington (Silver Spring, Md./Hibbing Community College) scored a layup as well, giving CSS a 13-12 lead.
The next two field goals for the Saints both came from beyond-the-arc, with Thomson and Washington both knocking down three's.
Andre Crockett Jr. (Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS (Rochester Community College)) and Jacquez Overstreet (Appleton, Wis./Oshkosh West (Marian University)) both got their first points of the night with jumpers on back-to-back possessions, with the score tied at 21-21.
Later in the half, Luke Raymond (Hudson, Wis./Concordia Academy (UW-River Falls)) scored his first points with an offensive rebound putback layup, and two jumpers from Crockett Jr. put CSS up nine, leading 35-26.
To close out the half for the Saints, Kevin Thomas (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) connected on a three-pointer, as CSS led 38-37 at the half.
Aaron Keykal (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) got the first basket for the Saints to open the second half, as the Pipers reclaimed its lead.
Keykal would score once again on a layup for St. Scholastica, as the Pipers led 53-44.
Nelson would contribute another three-pointer, which would later be followed with yet another Keykal layup, with Hamline still leading by nine points.
CSS would get layups on back-to-back possessions to go, with Washington finishing off a possession that began with Thomson forcing a turnover, and Thomas scoring on an assist from Moore.
Crockett Jr. and Moore would score the next two field goals for CSS, but the Pipers were able to extend its lead to 11 points.
Winesett would enter the game and score layups on consecutive possessions in what would be the last field goal for CSS, as the Pipers took today's game by a score of 84-68.
