ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team traveled to St. Paul this afternoon to take on its MIAC rivals, the Scots from Macalester. The Scots took an eight-point lead over the Saints at the halftime break, and although the Saints went head-to-head with the Scots in the second half, it wouldn't be enough, as the Scots took a 84-76 victory over CSS this afternoon.

How it Happened
Koy Nelson (Port Wing, Wis./South Shore HS) got the Saints offense started this afternoon, starting his afternoon with a pair of trips to the free throw line and a jumper, as CSS trailed just 7-6.

The Saints would get its first lead of the game after Kevin Thomas (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) went two for two from the free throw line and Moe Washington (Silver Spring, Md./Hibbing Community College) getting his first points of the half, as the Saints led 10-7.

After the Scots tied the game at 10-10, Tanner Thomson (Woodbury, Minn./Stillwater HS) would score on a three-pointer and a layup, giving CSS a 15-11 lead.

Jumpers from Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Andre Crockett Jr. (Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS (Rochester Community College)) helped keep CSS within striking distance after the Scots reclaimed the lead, as the Saints trailed 25-21.

After Winesett hit a shot from beyond-the-arc, the Saints would close out the first half with Thomson's second three-pointer and a layup from Matho Ojullu (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS (Dakota County Technical College)), as the Scots took a 42-34 lead over the Saints into the half.

Ojullu would open the second half for the Saints with the first four points, scoring on a layup and a successful trip to the free throw line, as the Scots still led 52-38.

Moments later, Nelson would contribute another three-pointer and a jumper, bringing the score to 56-43.

After Winesett hit another three-pointer, Crockett Jr. got a pair of layups to fall to bring the deficit down to 10 points.

Washington scored a minute later with a layup of his own, as the score now sat at 61-53 in favor of the Scots.

Minutes later, the Saints got layups from Aaron Keykal (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) and Washington, as well as free throws from Jeff Moore (Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) and Crockett Jr., as the Saints were within striking distance, trailing 71-63.

Winesett scored the next five points for the Saints, hitting his third three-pointer of the game to go along with a jumper, as the Scots lead sat at 11 points.

Despite late baskets from Thomson and Nelson, the Scots were able to ice the game and come away with a 84-76 victory over the Saints this afternoon.
