DULUTH, Minn. – The College of St. Scholastica Men's Basketball and Head Coach David Staniger have announced the addition of Chrisitan Butler to the Men's Basketball staff.

"We are excited to add Christian to the program as he has Division III experience both as a coach and a recruiter," commented Staniger. "His strengths will help our players and program improve at all levels. Christian has the same vision for our program and shares our core values. We welcome Christian to our Saints Basketball Family."

"I'm thrilled to come to CSS and work alongside Coach Staniger and his staff", said Butler. "Beginning with Athletic Director Jessica Cherry, the CSS athletic department and community have been nothing but amazing since I've arrived on campus, and I'm excited to be a Saint. I'm ready to work with our student-athletes, and enhance their experiences here in Duluth."

Butler becomes the first full-time Assistant Coach in program history and joins the Saints after spending the past four seasons at Aurora University as an Assistant Coach and Junior Varsity Head Coach for the Spartans. Butler also spent the past 3 years as an AAU Coach for Mercury Elite, based out of Chicagoland.

Before Aurora, he was a Graduate Assistant Coach at Montana State University Billings for three years and worked under longtime Division I and II coach Mick Durham. From 2015 to 2018, he attended Hope College in Holland, Mich., and was on the basketball staff as a Student Assistant Coach after playing his freshman year.

Butler, a Texas native, graduated from Hope College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sports Leadership & Psychological Principles of Sports at Hope College and then earned his Master's in Interdisciplinary Studies from Montana State University Billings.

Butler will reside in Duluth, with his official start date beginning on Monday, August 28.
