COLLEGEVILLE, Minn.
(csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team fell this afternoon in both games of a doubleheader to St. John's. The Saints fell just short in game one, by a score of 4-3, but the Johnnies got the best of the Saints in game two, defeating CSS by a score of 13-1.
Game One: SJU 4, CSS 3
The Johnnies stuck early in the first game of the day, driving in a runner after an early triple, to take a 1-0 lead.
The Saints responded in the top of the second as
Ryan Garlick (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS (Iowa Central Community College)) led off the inning drawing a walk, advancing to second on a wild pitch, then stealing third. Garlick later scored on a St. John's error to tie the game at 1-1.
The Johnnies added another run in the bottom of the second, grabbing back its 2-1 lead.
Mitchell Novak (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) led off the top of the third inning with a triple and was later driven in by
Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) on a groundout, tying the game at 2-2.
St. John's reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run, as the Johnnies led 3-2 after three innings.
In the top of the fifth inning,
Kam Larson (Chaska, Minn./Chaska HS) started the inning off with a bang, doubling to left and putting a man in scoring position early. With one out, Novak was able to drive Larson in with an RBI single, tying the game back at 3-3.
St. John's was able to get a pair of singles in the bottom of the fifth before yet another single would drive in a run, which would end up being the game deciding run, as the Johnnies took game one by a score of 4-3.
Game Two: SJU 13, CSS 1
In the top of the first inning,
Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) got the Saints an early run on a solo home run, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening frame.
After the score remained 1-0, St. John's had a big third inning, scoring seven runs, while taking a 7-1 lead over CSS.
The Johnnies were able to add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, extending its lead over CSS to 10-1.
St. John's scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, leading 13-1 after five frames.
The Saints' bats were held in check in the closing innings of today's second game, as the Johnnies completed the two-game sweep, defeating CSS by a score of 13-1 in game two.

The Saints (6-23, 4-12 MIAC) will hit the field tomorrow, as they will take on Augsburg, in a rescheduled game from earlier this season. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
