DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – In a double header against the number 17 team, the College of Saint Benedict, St. Scholastica lost 4-3 in the first game and 9-1 in the second game.
CSS 3, St. Bens 4
The game remained scoreless after the first inning but in the second inning, after St. Bens scored one run, the Saints came back and tied it up with a lead off home run by Lauren Laviano (Maplewood, Minn./Mahtomedi HS). In the third inning, the Bennies put up another two runs giving them a 3-1 lead over CSS. However, in the bottom of the inning a double to left center from Samantha Paniagua (Corona, Calif./Centennial HS) scored Emma Bolin (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium HS) closing the gap in the Bennies lead. St. Bens didn't hold the lead for long as the Saints came black in the fourth inning. Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) doubled to left field and Danielle Erickson (International Falls, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) came in to pinch run. Payton Lang's (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) single to center scored Erickson which tied the game up at 3-3. St. Ben's took the lead again in the fifth inning bringing the score to 4-3 and in the final innings of the game St. Scholastica couldn't make the comeback they were looking for and ended with a loss in game one.
At the plate for CSS, Paniagua, Rosenthal and Lang all went 2-3. In the circle, Ashley Matejka (Oak Forest, Ill./Carl Sandburg HS) pitched for the Saints.
CSS 1, St. Ben's 9
The Bennies took a 1-0 lead right away in the first inning and later took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. In the bottom of the inning Lang got the inning going with a single down the third baseline. A sacrifice bunt from Maddison blade advanced Lang to second and a ground out to third from Aryn Blumenthal (Linwood, Minn./Forest Lake HS) brought Lang to third before scoring on a single to the pitcher by Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS). In the remaining three innings, St. Bens scored seven more runs on the Saints, ending the game in a 9-1 run rule in the 6th inning.
At the plate for CSS the two hits in the game came from Dail and Lang. In the circle, Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) pitched four innings and Savannah Romero (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS (Bethel)) pitched the remaining two innings with one strikeout.

The Saints (12-14, MIAC 2-8) will be at home again on Wednesday the 26th to face Carleton College for their rescheduled game from April 19th. Game times are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
